I spent 10 years climbing a mountain, sure that fulfillment was waiting at the top. It wasn’t. The climb was the point.

Serban Mare came to America from Romania 20 years ago with $200 and a burning desire for the American dream. Two jobs, odd jobs, any job. He checked every box: the house, the corporate title, the 401k getting chubby.

And on another Sunday afternoon, on the same couch, a quiet voice asked: is this it? Physically fine, badging in every day, picture perfect from the outside. Inside, quietly cracking. The top of the mountain didn’t bring fulfillment. It brought burnout, and the golden handcuffs of his own success.
